The structure of Bayes nets for vision recognition

چکیده
This paperl is part of a study whose goal is to show the efficiency of a Bayes net to carry out model based vision calculations. [Binford et al. 1987] The network model is drawn up from the object's geometric and functional description to predict the appearance of an object. Then this net can be used to find the object within a photographic image of a scene. Many existing and proposed vision recognition techniques resemble the uncertainty calculations of a Bayes net. In contrast, though, they lack a derivation from first principles, and tend to rely on arbitrary parameters. that we hope to avoid by our network model. The connectedness of the net depends on what independence considerations can be identified in the vision problem. Greater independence leads to easier calculations, at the expense of the net's expressiveness. Once this tradeoff is made and the structure of the net is determined, it should be possible to tailor a solution technique for it. This paper explores the use of a net with multiply connected paths, drawing on both techniques of belief networks [Pearl 86] and influence diagrams. We then demonstrate how one formulation of a multiply connected net can be solved.

Task-Oriented Vision with Multiple Bayes Nets
We present the basic framework of a task-oriented computer vision system, called TEA, that uses Bayes nets and a maximum expected utility decision rule. Knowledge about the scene and about the nature of the specific task given to the system are represented in Bayes nets . We introduce a new kind of Bayes net, called an expected area net, that models both geometric relations between objects and ...

Automatic analysis of human facial expressions is one of the challenging problems in machine vision systems. It has many applications in human-computer interactions such as, social signal processing, social robots, deceit detection, interactive video and behavior monitoring. In this paper, we develop a new method for automatic facial expression recognition based on facial muscle anatomy and hum...
متن کاملA Sensor-Based Scheme for Activity Recognition in Smart Homes using Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence
This paper proposes a scheme for activity recognition in sensor based smart homes using Dempster-Shafer theory of evidence. In this work, opinion owners and their belief masses are constructed from sensors and employed in a single-layered inference architecture. The belief masses are calculated using beta probability distribution function. The frames of opinion owners are derived automatically ...
متن کاملJoin Bayes Nets: A New Type of Bayes net for Relational Data
Many real-world data are maintained in relational format, with different tables storing information about entities and their links or relationships. The structure (schema) of the database is essentially that of a logical language, with variables ranging over individual entities and predicates for relationships and attributes. Our work combines the graphical structure of Bayes nets with the logi...
متن کاملHuman Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition
With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...
